Fulham's Megan Names Air Ambulance after her Grandad

Six year-old promises to share "my hero and my angel in the sky"

A six year-old from Fulham has named London's second air ambulance Walter, after her much-loved grandfather.

The girl, named only as Megan by the service, entered a competition to name the new helicopter, and won over the judges with her touching tribute to her grandad.

Here is Megan's entry:

WALTER (G-LNDN)

" My grandad is named Wally and lives in the moon and stars with the angels so he would help keep the helicopter safe in the sky when it's helping people.

" He is my hero and my angel in the sky and I will share him to help the other people."

Now Megan has visited the Air Ambulance's helipad at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel to see his name placed on the new helicopter, the G-LNDN registered MD902 Explorer.

The competition formed part of the Your London, Your Helicopter fundraising campaign last year to acquire and sustain a second helicopter and extend summer daylight flying hours for five years.

London's Air Ambulance say that following generous donations from the people and organisations of London, the second helicopter, G-LNDN, is now operational, arriving in time to cover the other helicopter, G-EHMS, when it went offline for annual maintenance in January.
