Addison Singers Oratorio Choir Want Beautiful Voices

West London choir welcomes new singers for prestigious concert

The Addison Singers Oratorio Choir is inviting new members in all voices to join them for their summer term. Recent successful concerts have included the Verdi ‘Requiem’ and Handel’s ‘Messiah’ in London, as well as a memorable performance of the Mozart ‘Requiem’ in St Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna.

The choir’s summer concert on July 9th is a particularly prestigious event, that sees the choir not only sing at the famous Cadogan Hall, but also perform with the East London Brass Band, one of the best bands of their kind in London.

The band will perform works from their own repertoire in the first half of the concert and in the second will be joined by the choir in two contrasting works. The distinguished Austrian-English composer Joseph Horovitz celebrates his 90th birthday in 2016 – his music ranges from award-winning scores for film and TV (perhaps the best known being his theme for ‘Rumpole of the Bailey’), to many works for brass/wind band, orchestra and chamber music.

His Oratorio ‘Samson’ is a rare example of a work for chorus and brass band and tells the well-known Bible story, in vivid, tuneful, rhythmic and dramatic music - a piece that thanks to its unusual scoring has been rarely performed since its first performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 1977. One of the most popular items at the Last Night of the Proms are the ‘Sea Songs’ by Prom founder Sir Henry Wood – the final work in the programme will be Gordon Jacob’s arrangement for chorus & brass of this collection of well-known tunes, which should provide a rousing finale.

Do come and join the Addison Singers for this concert in one of London’s most important music venues. Rehearsals start on Wednesday April 27th at POSK, 238-246 King St, London, W6 0RF, 7.30pm-9.30pm. Nearest tubes Ravenscourt Park or Hammersmith. To apply, or for more info see www.addison-singers.org.uk or email Julie addisonadmin@gmail.com
