Daley Thompson Visits Chelsea and Westminster
To hold fun dance session in memory of physiotherapist killed in cycling accident
Daley Thompson, one of our greatest ever athletes, has visited Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to join in a fun dance session in memory of Esther Hartsilver, a physiotherapist killed in a cycling accident earlier this year.
The former decathlete, who won the decathlon gold medal twice in the 1980s and broke the world record for the event four times, joined in the dance session to raise awareness of road safety, raise money for Parkinson’s UK and the road safety charity Brake and to sponsor a bench in Victoria Park in east London in Esther’s memory.
Senior physiotherapist Barry Crane said: " It was tremendous so see so many people there, having a great time and celebrating in a way which would have made Esther proud."
Around 70 people came along to join in the lunchtime fun, with dancing, fitness and a stall selling healthy cakes.
Daley Thompson said: " It was a great event, and fantastic to see the enthusiasm for health and fitness from so many people. It was really good to be at the hospital, having a great time with people who do such an amazing job."
