Stephen Chambers Exhibition at Chelsea and Westminster

London painter's prints on show in hospital gallery

The Rhys Williams Gallery in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is hosting an exhibition of prints by London based painter Stephen Chambers.

The exhibition is presented by Hospital Arts, part of Chelsea and Westminster Health Charity and curated in collaboration with Stephen’s gallery, Flowers Galleries, London.

Stephen, who trained at Central St Martin’s and Chelsea School of Art, and was elected to the Royal Academy in 200, says: " I am pleased to be exhibiting my prints at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where they will complement the works already owned by Hospital Arts. I hope they will bring much pleasure to patients, staff and visitors to the hospital. "

Stephen's work combines abstract and figurative forms, and fuses formal and decorative elements to create a unique visual language of colour and pattern.

Katherine Mellor, Arts Director for Chelsea and Westminster Health Charity, says: " We are delighted to be working with Flowers to present this exhibition and grateful for Stephen Chambers’ continued support for the work of Hospital Arts."

25% of all sale proceeds from this exhibition go to Hospital Arts to fund future visual and performing arts projects within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital says says Hospital Arts is an integral part of it philosophy of healthcare. The aim is to create a healing environment where visual and performing arts combine to help relieve anxiety and assist recovery.

The Charity’s art collection, for which the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is renowned, is the most comprehensive anthology of contemporary British art on display in a hospital. Since the Hospital opened in May 1993, the Charity has acquired more than 1,000 paintings and murals, drawings, prints and photographs which enliven wards, clinics and treatment rooms, as well as public areas.

The Rhys Williams Gallery, situated on the hospital’s first floor, holds quarterly exhibitions by major artists. The collection can be viewed by patients, staff and visitors free of charge, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
