Borough in Bloom Winners Announced

Lillie Road gardeners Lester and Debbie celebrate

Winners of the annual Borough in Bloom competition have been announced.

The biggest winners were keen gardeners Lester and Debbie Kershenbaum, who live in Lillie Road. The green-fingered couple won three different categories Best Container Garden, Best Window Box and Best Front Garden.

There were ten different categories in this year’s competition, ranging from business premises to roof terrace and front garden.

Judges were particularly keen to see effective use of plants, colour, layout, good cultivation and maintenance. Special consideration was also given to gardens which included environmental benefits, such as water recycling or gardens that attract wildlife.

The winners were named at a special ceremony held on Monday October 5 in the Parlour of the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Cllr Alex Karmel.

Cllr Karmel says: " This year’s displays have been absolutely breathtaking and I would like to extend my congratulations to all of the winners. The competition really promotes civic pride and is always a highlight of the year for our many keen gardeners.”

Winners received a certificate and a gardening voucher for £20, while those finishing second and third received vouchers for £15 and £10.
