Programme Highlights

This is an exceptional gathering of special people. The guest artists and contributors are unique. Everyone involved is a leader in his or her respective field. What unites them is a focus on the heart as a source of joy, community, unity, love and understanding.

Nikki Slade is the UK’s #1 western style Kirtan leader, teacher and a pioneering natural voice facilitator with over 25 years international experience. She has inspired thousands of individuals to chant and has led chanting workshops for many corporations including M&C Saatchi, Deutcshe Bank and Cisco. Nikki will lead a Kirtan just before lunch.

In the afternoon we will be joined by Michael Ormiston and Candida Valentino. They are overtone and undertone singers and acclaimed multi instrumentalists who will be playing Tibetan singing bowls, the Turkish ney flute, and Shamanic drums alongside Rumi poetry.

In the early evening, Chloe Goodchild and Rebecca Nash will share their brand new musical collaboration inspired by Rumi poetry which opens with “Deep Listening”. Chloë is sought around the world as a teacher, composer, and performer. She is founder of The Naked Voice Foundation, a charitable trust devoted to healing suffering and resolving conflict through sound. Rebecca is an acclaimed Jazz composer and performer.

Before we close, Sandira Michael will nurture all with a wonderful gong bath. She is a sound healer who will play Tibetan gongs and crystal singing bowls to help people to let go and connect with our true selves.

Throughout the day teachers and members of The Study Society will give the public an opportunity to experience some of the charity’s regular activities:

Mevlevi Turners (whirling dervishes) and Sufi Poetry
In the 13thC. poet and mystic Jalaluddin Rumi established his Dervish order and the whirling dance of the Sema.  It is a powerful method of experiencing both inner stillness and opening the heart.  Mevlevi Turning was first brought to the Study Society by a Turkish Sheikh in 1963 and dervishes continue to turn at Colet House to present day.

Vedic Chanting and Meditation
Known thousands of years ago, the recitation of the hymns of the Vedas is a sophisticated form of music and one of the oldest of unbroken oral traditions.

Movements To Music
Originally collected from across the Middle East and Central Asia by I.Gurdjieff, the Movements have been taught at the Study Society for over 70 years. They are sacred dances, exercises and prayer which bring stillness in movement .
