Zadock baroque concert at Kelmscott House
Zadoque baroque are a group of west London musicians living in Chiswick, East Sheen and Kensington who are dedicated to playing baroque music on authentic instruments. A matinee concert with music of Bach and Handel will also include readings related to
the life of Violet Gordon Woodhouse, late, famed harpsichord virtuosi who lived a happy but unusual domestic life in a menage a cinq with her four 'husbands' at Ovington Square, SW3.
Violet Gordon Woodhouse (1872-1948) was one of the greatest musicians of her generation, a virtuoso on the keyboard, who did so much to recapture the unique qualities of the harpsichord and clavichord and interpret the compositions of compsoers such as: Bach, Mozart, Scarlatti, Handel and Quantz.
Among her many admirers were George Bernard Shaw and Ezra Pound. Audiences were enraptured by her musicianship; technically perfect, she seemed to possess a unique insight into the mind of the composer. Hearing her play was a rare and exquisite emotional experience.
