How to Survive Christmas in Hammersmith and Fulham


Your guide to essential services over the festive season

NHS Hammersmith and Fulham have produced this advice for anyone who feels unwell over the festive season.

GPs - For urgent medical advice call the surgery. If it is closed follow the recorded instructions.
Local surgeries will publish details of their opening hours over the holiday period.
Some surgeries will offer a limited service between 27 to 31 December. Call to check as sessions may be by appointment only.
If you need help fast, but it is not an emergency call 111. This number gives you access to non-emergency NHS healthcare and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days a year.

Dentists - For urgent dental advice and care call the surgery. If it is closed, follow the recorded instructions.
Local surgeries will publish details of their opening hours over the holiday period.
If you need help fast call 111 or contact the Out of Hours Dental Triage Service on 202 3402 1312. The Triage service is normally available from Monday to Friday 6pm - 10pm, Weekends and Bank Holidays 9am – 10pm. A holiday service will operate from 24 December to 2 January, 9 am – 10pm

The NHS have also produced a list of pharmacies which will be open across West London. You will find it on their website.

Recycle in Hammersmith and Fulham

Christmas refuse and recycling collections

H & F Council says there are only 3 collection days which change this year, all other collections dates will remain the same.

For properties which have one rubbish and recycling collection per week:

  • Christmas Day: No collection on Tuesday 25 December, your collection will be rescheduled to the 29 December 
  • Boxing Day: No collection on Wednesday 26 December, your collection will be rescheduled to Sunday 30 December 
  • New Year's Day: No collection on Tuesday 1 January, your collection will be rescheduled to Saturday 5 January

For properties which have two rubbish and recycling collections per week:

  • Christmas Day: No collection on Tuesday 25 December, just one collection this week on Friday 28 December.
  • Boxing Day: No collection on Wednesday 26 December, just one collection this week on Saturday 29 December
  • New Year's Day: No collection on Tuesday 1 January, just one collection this week on Friday 4 January

Parking

On Christmas Day, parking is free in all resident/business permit and pay and display bays in all parking zones throughout Hammersmith and Fulham. Other parking restrictions (including yellow lines, disabled bays, pedestrian crossing zig-zag markings, bus stops, doctors' bays and diplomatic parking bays) still apply, however no Council parking enforcement will take place. Motorists should therefore take care not to park in places where their vehicle may cause an obstruction or a danger, either to pedestrians, other road users, or to emergency services' vehicles.

On Boxing Day, usual parking restrictions and charges apply in Zones CC & G. Match day parking restrictions will also apply in Zones X & Y due to a home game at Fulham FC. Parking is free in resident/business permit and pay and display bays in all other parking zones throughout Hammersmith and Fulham. Other parking restrictions (including yellow lines, disabled bays, pedestrian crossing zig-zag markings, bus stops, doctors' bays and diplomatic parking bays) also still apply.

H &F's telephone helpline (020) 7371 5678 is closed on both days. Payments for Penalty Charge Notices can be made via the automated telephone payments system on (020) 7371 5678 at any time, even when the helpline is closed. Payments can also be made online at any time via the epayments page.

H & F Council

Council offices will be closed on 24, 25, 26 December and on 1 January.

h&f Direct Centre in Hammersmith Town Hall extension covers the following services: council tax, council tax benefit, housing benefits, business rates, parking permits, blue badges, freedom passes  taxi cards, cashiers and council rent collection.

  • Monday 24 December - Closed
  • Tuesday 25 December - Closed
  • Wednesday 26 December - Closed
  • Thursday 27 December - Business as usual *
  • Friday 28 December - Business as usual *
  • Monday 31 December - 9am to 4pm *
  • Tuesday 1 January 2013 - Closed
  • Wednesday 2 January - Business as usual

The 'new claims for council tax benefit & housing benefit reception service' in the h&f Direct Centre will be closed until 2nd January 2013, but can be contacted by phone (020 8753 6681) and will continue to operate. The h&f Direct Centre can also be accessed online

Libraries

Libraries in Hammersmith and Fulham will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. You can find full details on the libraries' web pages
