Stop and Search Powers Extended After Unlicensed Rave

Police called to derelict building on Putney High Street in early hours of Sunday

Extended stop and search powers have been given to police in Putney following an unlicensed music event taking place in a derelict building on the High Street.

Police were called at approximately 1.15am on Sunday, 23 February, to reports of a rave.

On arrival they found a large group of people. They made contact with the organisers and the event was shut down.

No arrests were made but a Section 60 was later authorised by Inspector Shickle as there were concerns that some of the attendees had been armed.

This and a section 60AA CJPO authority covered the Putney wards of Thamesfield, East Putney, West Putney and Palace Riverside from 2:30am to 5:30pm on Sunday 23 February.

These orders are issued when the police deem their concerns as an urgent requirement. They give officers greater than normal powers to stop and search for a limited period.
