Eight Arrested Following Fight At Coat & Badge


Clash believed to be between 'supporters' of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur

The police were called to a pub in Putney this Saturday (22 February) after reports of disturbances between two groups of football supporters.

The clash occurred outside the Coat & Badge pub after the game between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur which the former won 2-1.

The Police were called at approximately 2.40pm to reports of a fight involving a large number of people at the pub. Eight males were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

One local residents said she saw,"People with blood all over their faces, could see metal chairs and tables used to bludgeon people. Lots of middle aged men!!! All dressed similar, face masks on some. Hideous. Police came quite quickly and in numbers"."

Some local observers have suggested that the confrontation was pre-planned between the two groups.

The pub is popular venue to watch sport on the big screens in the courtyard. It was closed for sometime on Saturday afternoon.

The police say there were no reports of any serious injuries and that their enquiries are ongoing.
