Three taken to hospital after collision with another vehicle

The Upper Richmond Road was closed for a period on Saturday evening and Sunday morning (31 August - 1 September) after a British Transport Police (BTP) van collided with another vehicle and then hit a lamppost.

The crash occurred at 9.48pm on Saturday night by the junction with Putney Hill requiring the closure of Upper Richmond Road westbound. The road reopened later on Sunday morning.

An unconfirmed report suggested that the van rolled over.

A BTP spokesperson said, “At 9.48pm on 31 August a British Transport Police van was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Putney High Street. Minor injuries were reported; two police officers and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital for treatment and were later released. Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the collision.”

The Metropolitan Police are investigating.

Putney had already been seeing an elevated level of congestion due to the closure of the High Street northbound after a burst water main and traffic diverted to the area by the closure of Hammersmith Bridge.

We have asked the police for a comment on the collision.
