It has emerged that the issue of road safety at the location where a woman was recently killed in a traffic collision had been raised just a few days before her death.
Councillors at the Wandsworth borough planning committee meeting on 26 June had demanded that the Council specifically seek TfL’s opinion about the section of the Upper Richmond Road opposite the Carpetright store.
On 1 July an 86-year-old woman was killed at this spot after being hit by a coach.
Councillors were discussing plans for a 24-hour gym at the former carpet store and concerns had been expressed about the busy forecourt opposite with junctions, a pedestrian crossing and schools nearby.
Local residents had objected to the possible disruption and traffic impacts of the proposed gym and had argued for the need for better traffic management in an increasingly busy and congested area.

It was also suggested there should be a condition on secure cycle parking provision and residents were concerned that studio classes would be playing loud music with a class leader on a microphone just feet away from homes nearby.
Planning Committee members’ decided to defer the application to get more assurance and information on the issues that were raised.
