Second fatality in the area within forty minutes
Putney station
A person has died after being hit by a train at Putney station this Wednesday morning (7 November).
The fatality occurred shortly before 10.22am. It is not being treated as a suspicious death.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said, “Officers were called to Putney station after reports of a person being struck by a train.
“Colleagues from the London Ambulance Service also attended, however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family. This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
The emergency services have completed their work at the station and trains have resumed operation having been suspended between Barnes and Clapham Junction. South Western Railway say that disruption is likely to continue until the end of the day with train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Kingston.
This was the second fatality in the Putney area within the space of 40 minutes. A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a lorry at the junction of Putney High Street and Werter Road at around 9.42am.
2 deaths, 1 hour apart, in Putney. One at the Werter Road/Putney High Street junction where a pedestrian was hit by a lorry and another at Putney Mainline Station where someone died on the tracks. Terrible. Thoughts to all those left behind that will be forever effected by this.
