Umber Cars
Avoid the hustle and bustle of the tube and start your weekend getaway or extended break in style with a private airport transport service from West London based Umber Cars. The app, available on iOS and Android, allows you to book a taxi service in just a few minutes and three taps, after registering for an account.
The service is available 24 hours a day and offers pre-set prices from locations in Hammersmith, Shepherd’s Bush, White City and Acton to all major London airports. Bookings can be made days in advance and the app will also allow you to track the cab on a map, so you can see when you’re close to the terminal; avoiding those last minute “will I make it?” jitters.
MiFlight
Who fancies standing in the security line for longer than necessary at the airport? It seems not many of us, which is why the MiFlight app has been taking off (excuse the terrible pun) in recent months. Based on crowd sourced social sharing data the app aims to provide travellers with real time wait times for security checkpoints at 54 major international airports.
Currently iOS only, the MiFlight app arms users with the vital information they need to maximise their time when planning an airport commute. Knowing you’ll only have a 10 minute wait to get through security when you arrive at the airport can make the difference between rushing around like a headless chicken or sauntering through the terminal with time in the bag; these, as we know, are fine margins.

With transport taken care of it’s time to plan your first meal upon touching down in your holiday retreat of choice. Foodspotting, a website and app available across all major smartphone platforms, goes one step further than your standard restaurant reviews with a focus on user reviewed dishes from around the world.
Fancy a korma in Kolkata, tacos in Tijuana or sushi in Shibuya then the Foodspotting app will soon become your best friend. Steering you clear of the tourist hotspots and towards authentic local dishes the app is “a visual guide to good food and where to find it”. Use the app to find a particular local dish synonymous with your destination or simply search for nearby restaurants via GPS and find out instantly the best dishes in the vicinity.
And the icing on the cake? Foodspotting makes use of data about your favourite dishes to predict what you’ll be having for breakfast.
