Still looking for the right person to run your local web site
HammersmithToday.co.uk is still looking for a new editor.
The site has recently been breaking new records under the stewardship of Sheila Prophet and we hope you agree that she has been doing a great job. However, it has always been our policy that the editors should live in the areas that they cover and Sheila wants to concentrate on developing her own site fulhamsw6.com.
We need someone who can take the site onto the next level and make it the leading media for the Hammersmith area ahead of the Council funded H&F News.
Currently hammersmithtoday.co.uk has over 1,700 members but the aim would be to significantly increase this this over the next two years to bring it closer to the level of chiswickw4.com which has over 16,000 members. We believe that this can be achieved by delivering the best quality independent local news.
The closing date for applications is January 31st.
The ideal candidate would be someone with an excellent writing style, who has lived in the Hammersmith area for at least 3 years and is already active in the community. The editor would be expected to produce quality original news items about local affairs, restaurants, community activities and the property market.
Only limited technical ability is needed. The candidate would probably have easy access to broadband internet. Most of the existing editors work in a home office environment. There is no programming required and software will be provided that is easy to use.
Remuneration would be based on the growth on traffic growth and membership of the site. Initially the role is likely to be part-time but it is expected that ultimately it would become full-time as the site grew. The editor will be responsible for keeping the site's news content up to date and dispatching an e-mail newsletter. It is anticipated that this would require a minimum of ten hours a week initially. He or she will benefit from help and support of other editors in the group. News content is shared between the sites.
In the last year we have launched sites in Fulham and Shepherd's Bush. These have grown very rapidly and form a mutually supportive network of sites in the borough. The Hammersmith editor will work closely with the editors of these two sites.
You will be joining a group of editors from across West and South West London who will help and guide you in the new role. You will be joining just in time for our Christmas party!
Neighbour Net is the largest dedicated supplier of online local news in the U.K.
If you think you might be interested in taking up the role please send a very brief c.v. to info@neighbournet.com with a short explanation of why you would like to become editor and what you would hope to achieve.
