W14 venue named country's Best Sports Pub for second time
The Famous Three Kings, at the top of North End Road next to West Kensington tube station, has won the title of Best Sports Pub in this year's Great British Pub Awards.
This is the second time the Famous Three Kings, which says it is the biggest sports pub in london, has won the title - it was also a winner in 2012.
The winners were announced at a ceremony held at the Hilton in Park Lane on October 5, with the team from the Famous Three Kings receiving this trophy.
This pub was famous in the late 1970s as one of West London's top music venues, when it was called the Nashville Rooms and hosted bands including Georgie Fame, Dr Feelgood, Eddie & the Hot Rods, Elvis Costello, the Undertones, Sex Pistols, Stranglers, and Siouxsie & the Banshees
Now it is "for the serious sports fan" boasting three projectors and 15 plasma screens. It says: " A venue that fulfils your dreams in televised sports, with over 71,000 TV channels covering 25% of the earth’s satellite demands, we are fanatical about what we do. "
The awards judges said the pub has "carved out a reputation as the capital's go-to venue for watching live sport. It is not associated with one particular club or team, rather fans from all nationalities pile in for big matches across all types of sport and help create a crackling atmosphere."
The team working in the pub, which has recently had a facelift, were also praised: " The sports-savvy team expertly led by general manager Paul Eastwood are highly organised and focus on building the pre-match atmosphere through music, food and entertainment and then keeping customers in the pub long after the whistle has blown with more of the same."
