Deep Waters performed by children offers alternative to panto

 

W11 Children's Opera come to the Posk Theatre in King Street this weekend with a brilliant alternative to the traditional panto.

W11 Opera have commissioned over 30 new operas in 40 years all performed by children. This year they are reviving their 2000 Production Deep Waters by awarding-winning Composer Cecilia McDowall and librettist Christie Dickason.

"A wild storm batters a small boat; four children fall overboard and descend to the bottom of the sea.  They can breathe in this supernatural, subaquatic world where the fish are scheming to survive; the children soon realise that they have a dangerous mission to undertake.

" Deep Waters blends wit with a warning: divisive practices lead to deep trouble."

There are four performances of Deep Waters at 3.30pm and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday, with tickets priced £16, or £12 for under 18s except for the final performance on Sunday.

It's also an opportunity to discover the Posk Theatre (opposite Latymer Upper School in King Street) which has a wealth of facilities and a wonderful Polish cafe too.

W11 Opera provides a unique opportunity for young people from all backgrounds to be involved in opera has a strong community base. For many it is their first introduction to music theatre of any kind. Over 41 years, more than 2,000 children have appeared in 34 brand new commissions.
