Special Grants Programme: Invitation
for applications
SGP supports the work by voluntary and community organisations exploring
ways of involving people in improving the quality of life in towns and
cities.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) is inviting voluntary and community organisations to apply for grant in 2004-2005 from the Special Grants Programme (SGP). Applications must be for work in England that contributes to ODPM's urban policy interests and explores diverse ways of involving people in improving the quality of life in towns and cities, in accordance with the Urban White Paper.
The Special Grants Programme (SGP) allocates £2.25 million per year to support innovative work by voluntary and community organisations exploring diverse ways of involving people in improving the quality of life in towns and cities. The SGP is intended to assist these organisations and policy makers in learning the lessons from what works and how best to promote them.
In addition, the SGP actively seeks to promote race equality and diversity across the five themes of urban policy. Applications are encouraged from black and minority ethnic and other excluded groups to enable them to deliver outputs which ensure the integration of race equality and diversity into all urban policy.
Applications that show strong links to the Sustainable Communities: building for the future plan and its focus on transforming the quality of public spaces and local environments, and creating decent places that are cleaner, safer and greener will be given preference.
The SGP will support work programmes relating to the Office's urban policy interests within the overarching theme of urban renaissance. It has an important catalytic effect in promoting the voluntary and community sector's role in urban policy objectives, and demonstrates the Office's support for, and commitment to working with the sector.
Bids are invited through an annual competition. A letter to applicants, application forms and guidance for the 2004-05 round are now available on the website on the Special Grants Programme home page. The closing date for applications is 19 September 2003.
