Local parks are spruced up for Spring

Projects initiated to improve local open spaces

As Spring arrives, the local parks are promised a raft of improvements as part of the council's Spring Clean.

Improving the borough's parks is one of the pledges the council has made in its Spring Clean campaign, which urges residents, businesses and schools to make their own pledges to help improve the borough. Weeds will be removed, old plants and old flower tubs are being replaced and grass areas will be given a soft landscaping treatment to improve their condition.

There are also a number of specific projects planned for some of the boroughs' parks, including:

* Painting of fences in and around Eel Brook Common * Pruning and cutting back of shrubs in Wormholt Park
* Removal of old/redundant signposts in Bishops Park
* Improvement to Hurlingham Park paddling pool
* Cleaning of seats and buildings in Margavine Gardens and Marcus Garvey Park

Councillor Michael Cartwright, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "As the first signs of spring start to show, residents are naturally heading to our parks to enjoy some fresh air after the long cold winter. Our parks are an extremely popular and well-used resource in our busy London borough and that is why we have decided to make even bigger improvements to our parks this year. I hope all our residents will enjoy the new plants and other enhancements as they walk, cycle or play in our parks this Spring."
