£1.4m regeneration project includes new seating, lighting and more trees
The square is undergoing a major regeneration, as part of the council’s regeneration programme of town centres.
As part of the £1.4million major regeneration, the new Lyric Square will include dry plaza water feature.
Construction workers have just completed work on the fountain’s hidden underground chamber, which will house the pipes and mechanics.
While above ground, the public will be able to enjoy the calming influence of the fountain once the work is complete.
As well as the fountain the council is also repaving the square, installing new seating and lighting and planting 30 new trees.
Deputy for regeneration, Cllr Dame Sally Powell, said: “This is a fantastic project which will really transform the heart of Hammersmith.
“Already work has been completed on a new entrance for the Lyric Theatre, and our work on the square will bring Hammersmith’s town centre to life.
“This project follows our regeneration of Fulham town centre, and the ongoing work to improve Shepherds Bush.”
The regenerated square will be officially opened next spring, although the work will be completed and the square open earlier.
