Passers by escape injury as high winds cause collapse
Passers by, including a mother and child, narrowly escaped injury when Hammersmith's Christmas tree was blown over in this morning's high winds.
The tree in Lyric Square - with its lights still on - collapsed around 9am, but council emergency service arrived within minutes to secure the area and make it safe, as you can see in this Twitpic, taken by Alexander Fleming at onescoop.
Patricia Branch, spokesperson for HammersmithLondon, the organisation behind the tree and other Christmas festivities in the town centre, says: "The emergency services were on the scene very quickly indeed and luckily no one was hurt.
"They got to work on it later in the morning and I am happy to report the Christmas tree is upstanding once more!"
