TV journalist Sue Lloyd Roberts will be at a special charity screening of the film Lilya 4-Ever for the benefit of Amnesty International at 3pm next Saturday (12 July) at the Riverside Studios. Tickets are £5 (£3.50 concessions).

The film, by Swedish film director Lukas Moodysson, has already received great critical acclaim. I tells the story of Lilya, a teenage girl living in dire poverty somewhere in the Russian Federation after being abandoned by her mother. She forms a friendship with an 11 year old boy from another dysfunctional family, and they fantasise together about the future. But one day Lilya meets Andrei, who persuades her to start a new life with him in Sweden. The vulnerable youngster find herself trapped into the growing trade in sex trafficking from Eastern Europe.

"Lilya 4-Ever is part of an urgent new wave of movies about immigrants and asylum seekers", wrote Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian.

The screening will be followed by a brief post-film discussion of the issues raised with Sue Lloyd Roberts and Mike Kaye from Anti-Slavery International. The event has been organised by the Hammersmith and Fulham Group of Amnesty International with co-operation of Riverside Studios, and ties in with Amnesty's current campaign for human rights in Russia.

"Violence against women in Russia is another major area of concern, and the buying and selling of women into the sex trade is growing faster because of this generally accepted background of violence", said Group member Elizabeth Mioduchowski.
