Police dispute claims £59 million facility is behind schedule

Hammersmith Police Station is due to reopen in spring 2020, a year later than previously reported.
The former 1930s Grade II-listed police station in Shepherd’s Bush Road closed in late 2016 to undergo a huge £59 million expansion.
Improved horse stables will be included in the station, as well as new custody cells, modern offices for its criminal investigation department, and underground parking.
At this time, a concrete shell of the new building can be seen on the site.
Scotland Yard this week confirmed the station’s new opening time. Previous reports in trade press from when the project began stated that it would open in early 2019.
The Met Police confirmed the 2020 reopening date, but would not comment further.
Local councillors contacted by the BBC Local Democracy Reporting Service were also unaware of the later reopening date.
London Communications Agency, a company hired to manage the Met’s public relations, denied there had been any delay. But it was unable to give an example of when the 2020 opening time was publicised.
A spokesperson said: “The Hammersmith Police Station refurbishment works began in August 2017 with a target opening date of Spring 2020. There have not been any delays to the construction programme and the renovated police station is currently scheduled to complete on time.”
A 24/7 front counter at Shepherd’s Bush police station, which opened as a temporary measure while Hammersmith Police Station remained under construction, will remain open.
Fulham Police Station was one of 37 London police stations that closed in 2017.
