Save Our Cinema Campaign Launches

Filmgoers to be asked for their support this Saturday

Campaigners are planning to use the showing of the new Harry Potter film at Cineworld in Hammersmith this weekend to raise awareness of plans to close the cinema.

Save Our Cinema is a branch of the Save Our Skyline campaign. At 2pm this Saturday (27th November) they will be on King Street outside the cinema to launch their campaign. They will be asking filmgoers to sign up to oppose the cinema being knocked down.

A spokesperson for the campaign said, " We want to get as many local people as possible to show their support for a local, community based cinema in Hammersmith, and to tell the council that they need to listen to their views."

Development plans have recently been announced in which a 14 storey residential block would be built near the site of the cinema. The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham will now consult on the plans, which will go before the council’s planning committee during 2011.

The planning documents are available to view on the council’s web site now, at www.lbhf.gov.uk/planning.
