Businesses and families - including dogs - invited to join grand opening party
The fun will kick off at 8am on Friday with entertainment including stilt walkers, a DJ, free manicures and face painting.
Mayor of Hammersmith, Councillor Daryl Brown will be attending the opening to cut the ribbon alongside the new store’s Local Director, Adam Durrant and Store Manager, Kiyesha Gordon.
The store - Metro Bank's 74th - is located at 27-29 Kings Mall in King Street, joining our borough's existing store in Fulham Broadway. There is also a store to the west on Chiswick High Road.
The bank says its stores are a hub for the local community, and the Hammersmith store will host regular networking events for local businesses and colleagues will deliver its free financial education programme, Money Zone, to schools and youth groups in the area.
The National Curriculum approved training, which is provided through classroom and store-based sessions, has already supported more than 100,000 children across the UK with their financial literacy. The Hammersmith store will be hosting its first Money Zone at the store on Friday morning, welcoming a group of pupils from Flora Gardens Primary School in to learn some money top tips, play games and meet the bank’s mascot, Metro Man.
Metro Bank offers customers the choice to bank however, whenever and wherever they choose – whether that’s face-to-face banking in store, on the phone, online or via its mobile app.
Customers can visit the store seven days a week, with no appointment needed, and open a personal or business account on-the-spot, leaving with their debit card in hand, along with internet and mobile banking set-up.
The store will have more than 2,500 safe deposit boxes available, which now available to be reserved, and will offer free coin counting facilities for customers and non-customers alike.
The Hammersmith team have been working closely with the Hammersmith BID in the lead up to the opening and last year attended its local Christmas market for charity, where Metro Bank put on a craft event for children.
Ian Walters, Managing Director of Retail and Business Banking at Metro Bank, said: "We’re thrilled to be opening a new store in Hammersmith, and to be providing the very best service and convenience to our growing network of personal and business customers in the West London region. This store will give the people of Hammersmith a place not only to do their banking, but to connect with their local community and feel valued as customers."
Patricia Bench, Hammersmith BID Director, added: "We are delighted to welcome Metro Bank to Hammersmith. We very much look forward to working closely with them at this exciting period for Kings Mall and the whole of the Hammersmith business community."
All Metro Bank stores are open at the most convenient time for local people, from 8am to 8pm Monday to Fridays, 8am to 6pm on Saturdays and 11am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays, 362 days a year.
The opening comes at a time of big change for Kings Mall. As we reported last month, IKEA have announced plans to open a new format city centre store in the mall in spring 2021 following the shopping centre’s acquisition by its parent company Ingka Centres.
Lidl has also announced plans to open a large supermarket within the mall, though it is not yet known if the sale of the centre has affected those plans.
