Kings Mall Marks the Centenary of the End of WW1
Vist the centre today or tomorrow to help create a giant poppy wreath
From 12pm to 5pm today, Friday 9 and Saturday 10 November, visitors can craft their own individual poppies that will then be added to a giant wreath. The completed wreath will then be displayed in Kings Mall on Remembrance Sunday.
Kings Mall Centre Manager, Andrew Proctor says: "With this year being such a significant and poignant one for the Royal British Legion and the anniversary of the end of World War One, we wanted to do something special to mark the occasion.
"This is a great way for people from across Hammersmith and West London to be able to pay their respects whilst getting creative. As more and more time passes since the end of the First World War, it is vital that we continue to remember the sacrifices that were made then and in other conflicts since.
"This is our way of paying tribute to the Armed Forces and the Royal British Legion and raising awareness of the work that they do to help veterans and their families. We hope it inspires people to donate to such a good cause."
Year five and six pupils from St Pauls CE Primary School will be joining in today. The school's Headteacher, Claire Fletcher, says: “We are very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this unique project. It is such an honour for our children to take part in this special event, organised by Kings Mall, which marks the passing of a century since the end of the First World War - such a momentous moment in British and World history.
“We hope that, in contributing to this innovative approach to community collaboration, our children will understand the historical significance; comprehend the sacrifice made by many and recognise the significance of peace.”
