Pub, restaurant and cafe voted favourites by local foodies
HammersmithLondon has announced the winners of the 2016 I Love Lunch in Hammersmith.
Now in its fifth year, the BID’s annual culinary competition seeks to find the best lunchtime eateries in Hammersmith by asking the public to vote online in three categories: Best Pub, Best Restaurant and Best Café.
HammersmithLondon says this year's I Love Lunch competition has proven to be the most thrilling yet, with 37 venues participating and all new winners in each category.
The 2016 winners are:
Best Pub – The Salutation
Best Restaurant – Wagamama
Best Café – Street Eats
Thousands of votes were cast, making this the busiest year of the competition to date, as people engaged through social media and the HammersmithLondon website to support their favourite local lunch venues.
The Salutation managed for the first time to overpower the Hammersmith Ram, who had thus far remained unbeaten in the competition. Fierce competition also came from popular craft beer specialists the Draft House and gourmet pub The Stonemason’s Arms, whose head chef recently won the Fuller’s Chef of the Year competition.
A real war was waged in the Best Restaurant category with pan-Asian maestros Wagamama taking on three-time winners Villagio, who fought valiantly, however eventually succumbed to defeat, as Wagamama won by a single vote. Newcomers LEON came in third in the category.
Street Eats proved their local support by winning the Best Café title. Last year’s winners, Kettle & Crust, were worthy rivals in second place, with King Street’s fresh German bakery Bakehaus right behind them.
The competition gives businesses a chance to showcase their culinary delights with the aim of encouraging people to make the most of their lunchtimes by visiting the eateries in Hammersmith town centre.
All three winners will be presented with trophies and certificates by the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham. As winners, all three will be nominated for the West London Business Awards, to be held later this year.
