A man who was caught red-handed flytipping in Mitre Way now faces a £500 bill, after an appearance this week in West London Magistrates Court.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council prosecuted Hadin Beyan, 36, of Shepherds Bush, after the police saw him dumping waste at Mitre Way including a broken wardrobe and fittings, half a bed and planks of laminate flooring on 29 May, 2005.
The court heard Mr Beyan admitted to police he had previously dumped rubbish and removed the rubbish that he had been caught tipping, along with the previous rubbish he had dumped.
Mr Beyan was found guilty on 10 January in West London Magistrates Court of fly tipping under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. He was fined £250 and ordered to pay £250 to the costs of the prosecution.
Councillor Reg McLaughlin, cabinet member for social inclusion, welcomed the result and said it reflected the council’s zero tolerance policy on fly tipping.
“People who fly tip are nothing short of environmental vandals and this council won’t hesitate to prosecute to get the message across that this sort of crime will not be tolerated.”
The council is now undertaking the prosecution of a second case relating to flytipping in Mitre Way.
