Suzu sends proceeds from food parcels to Red Cross

Japanese restaurant Suzu has thanked everyone who  helped it to raise over £8,000 to help the people of Japan on Thursday March 24.

The Hammersmith Road restaurant sold thousands of boxes of sushi for £2 on the fundraising day, with all proceeds going to the Japanese Red Cross.

The owner of Suzu, Maki Matthews, lost her godson and friends in the recent earthquake and tsunami and says she wanted to make a difference to those suffering from the aftermath of the disaster.

All staff gave their time free of charge to support the cause, and suppliers also joined in, donating trhe produce free.

Maki is now continuing her fundraising drive by selling sushi at here daughter's school, St James Girls School in West Kensington, and at a special concert taking place at the Royal College of Music in Kensington on Wednesday, April 6.

The concert will be called Kibou: Hope for Japan and will feature music by Brahms, Strauss, Fauré and Poulenc, followed by a reception with wine, sake and Japanese snacks. Tickets cost £10, and all proceeds go to the victims of the tsunami.
