Over 1,000 A* Grades Gained at Latymer Upper

Students at Hammersmith school celebrate GCSE success

Students at Latymer Upper School are celebrating another good year of GCSE results with 100% of pupils achieving at least five GCSEs with A*- C grades.

Altogether, over 1,000 A* grades were gained by pupils across the year.

The school says seven pupils achieved 11 A* grades, 23 pupils achieved at least 10 A* grades, 66 achieved at least 8 A* grades and 110 achieved at least five A* grades across a wide range of subjects.

75% of pupils achieved an A* in Maths and English.

Head, David Goodhew said: " Congratulations to all our GCSE pupils who have seen their hard work rewarded. This year group includes some of our best artists, actors and musicians, the county champions at hockey and netball, and a world champion acro-gymnast!

"They exemplify the advantages of a rounded education, where top grades do not entail sacrificing extra-curricular activity. Year 11 and GCSEs are not always the most enjoyable phase in any pupil’s school career, but the reward is the Sixth Form: done well, it should be the best two years of their life at school. I look forward to seeing our new Sixth Formers as they take the next exciting step in their education; they will be joined by new pupils from other schools who will, I’m sure, become life-long friends."

Among the inspiring individual stories this year is that of Alex Papworth who, having won the World Acrobatic Gymnastics Championship in Beijing earlier this year, now adds six A* and two A grade GCSEs to his remarkable achievement.

Proving that sporting pursuits can aid academic achievement, the school's competitive swimmers - and winners of the prestigious Bath Cup - Zoe Faure Beulieu, Carter Nelson and Spencer Williams add an impressive set of A* GCSEs to add to their silverware.

Zoe gained ten A*s, with Spencer and Carter achieving nine A* grades each. And it was a clean sweep for rowers Anais Marinho, who gained 11 A* grades, Olivia Von Stauffenberg and Sophie Oestergaard, who each achieved ten A*grades.

Meanwhile twins Isabella and Sofia Sportelli celebrated joint success, gaining 18 A*GCSEs between them – nine each!

Amir Rafati-Fard, Aos Al Hasani, and Jasmin Malek, all of whom joined Latymer on a bursary, celebrated an outstanding set of grades. Amir achieved ten A*s and 1 A, and Aos and Jasmin gained nine A*s and 1 A grade each.

As they embark on the next stage of their education, the GCSE pupils will now join the Sixth Form at Latymer Upper School.
