More Cycle and Bus Lanes for Hammersmith

£5.1million funding will create more 20mph zones and clean up Fulham

New cycle paths will be created, 20mph zones will be introduced and Fulham Town Centre will have better pavements and signage thanks to a £5.1million TfL funding package for Hammersmith and Fulham.

The funding includes £725,000 for the London Cycle Network for more cycle lanes and better facilities for cyclists in Hammersmith and Fulham.

The funding will contribute £870,000 to strengthen the bridge on Hammersmith Road above the District Line, £200,000 for 20mph zones and £100,000 to improve Fulham Town Centre.

In Fulham work will include repaving, renewing and de-cluttering street furniture, such as railings and benches, and resurfacing to meet accessibility standards and better signage.

Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone said: “This new £5.1 million investment in local transport schemes will make the daily journeys of people in Hammersmith and Fulham, safer, greener and more accessible, whether they are travelling by public transport, by car, on foot or by bike.

“Thanks to extra investment in local transport schemes, cycling has increased by 83 per cent since 2000 and more than 1600 school travel plans have been approved which encourage and enable more children and their parents to walk to school.” 

In addition, £30,000 will be allocated towards a new westbound bus lane on Olympia Bridge and to improve conditions for cyclists.

A further £30,000 will be spent on promoting campaigns that encourage greener travel, including: 'Bike Week', 'In town without my car day', 'National Liftshare Day' and 'Walking Works' - to promote walking to work.
