Tributes Flood in for Latymer Upper's Nick Sennett

Hammersmith school teacher died in car crash on Tuesday

Tributes have been flooding in from colleagues and students at Latymer Upper School for teacher Nick Sennett, who was killed in an accident on the A40 near Paddington on Tuesday April 16.

Mr. Sennett, 58, who lived in Chiswick had been teaching Economics at the Hammersmith school for five years and was highly popular with both students and staff.

He was a sixth form tutor, coached the year nine rowing team and ran the school’s Young Enterprise scheme, which helps pupils start up their own businesses.

The school's announcement on its website said: " We are sad to announce the tragic death of Mr Nick Sennett in a car accident on Tuesday 16th April. Mr Sennett was head of our World Perspectives course, taught A level Economics, and was a much-loved Sixth Form Tutor. Our thoughts are with his family at this dreadful time.

"The School mourns the loss of a popular teacher and a respected colleague; we will take time to consider how best to commemorate him, and will notify the Latymer community once arrangements have been made."

Headteacher David Goodhew said: " Nick's colleagues, his students, both current and former, as well as their parents, are grieving for his tragic and untimely death, and our thoughts are very much with his family at this dreadful time.

"Tributes to Nick have been flooding in and it is clear he touched the lives of so many and is remembered with tremendous warmth and affection. The school has lost a great teacher, a dear tutor and a good friend."

The school flag is flying at half-mast tomorrow in his memory.

Friends and current and former students have also been adding their tributes on Twitter. Steve Knight @steveknight15 tweeted: " . One of the best teachers I have ever had! He will be sorely missed. Utterly speechless."

Alex Hodgkinson@alex-hodge said: " Prayers go out to the family of Nick Sennett. Great teacher and an even better man."

Speaker company Infinite, made of students at Latymer Upper who developed their business with Mr Sennett's help issued this heartfelt message: " A tragic day for Infinite owing to the news that one of our supervisors, Nick Sennett, has passed away this morning.

"Without Mr Sennett, ECHO would be in no position that it is in today. Throughout our journey he has taught us, advised us and shared many jokes along the way. An absolutely incredible and kind man who will be sorely missed by the group and beyond. We cannot begin to imagine the grief among his family, and our deepest thoughts are with them."

Infinite has been taking part in Young Enterprise, the UK's largest business and enterprise education programme. So far, the company has won the regional final for Hammersmith & Fulham and Ealing, with the West London, national and European finals still ahead.

The company's tweet ended: " Infinite will continue the competition in his legacy and we hope that we have, and will continue to, make him proud. R.I.P Mr Sennett - never forgotten.

There were four cars involved in the accident which happened around 7.40 a.m. on Tuesday near Bishops Bridge on the A40. The driver of a Peugeot car, aged in his thirties, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released on bail pending further police investigations.
