Vernon Street Offices Praised by Hammersmith Society
Accolades and brick bats were thrown at the annual Hammersmith Society Awards.
The awards, hosted at Jasmine Studios, 186/188 Shepherd's Bush Road, were held on Wednesday (June 16).
The dreaded 'wooden spoon' award for the worst building in the borough was given to Dorville Row in King Street.
This was described by Angela Clarke, chair of the Hammersmith Society as being in a 'dismal state'.
She said: "These buildings are among the oldest in Hammersmith and are on the Local Register of Buildings of Merit/Historic Interest.
"Through lack of development control - even though they are almost opposite the Town Hall - and unauthorised alterations, signs, windows etc. the original character is all but lost."
Singled out for praise were the Vernon Street Offices in West Kensington.
These won the Environment Award.
Mrs Clarke said: "This is part of the redevelopment of the former West London Magistrates Court.
"The original Edwardian brick building has been retained and restored.
"The former yard and cell block at the rear have been demolished and replaced with this very contemporary office building in white stone and glass.
"The offices are let to a number of companies specialising in IT and TV work."
