Woman rescued from third floor of flats above the shop
Two fire engines and around ten firefighers were called to a fire affecting a staircase in a common area of some flats above a shop on North End Road in West Kensington, yesterday evening.A staircase leading from the first to the ground floor was damaged by fire. A woman was rescued from a third floor flat by firefighters via an internal staircase and was treated for smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service.
Fulham Watch Manager Joseph Mulley who was at the scene of the fire said: “We’ve now installed a number of new smoke alarms in the landing areas of the property. The smoke alarms which were there before were not working. I would urge everyone to test and maintain their smoke alarms regularly as it could really decrease the risk of death or injury in the event of a fire.”
The Brigade was called at 9.21 p.m. and the fire was under control by 9.56 p.m. Crews from Fulham and Hammersmith fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
