Stephen Blake stabbed Christopher Beaumont to death with a kitchen knife

A man from Hammersmith who stabbed his brother to death in Melrose Gardens earlier this year is to be detained indefinitely after pleading guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

33-year-old Steven Blake admitted at Blackfriars Crown Court this August to using a kitchen knife to kill Christopher Beaumont.

On Friday, 19 October, at the same court, he was made the subject of a Hospital Order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983 and a Restriction Order under Section 41 meaning that he will remain incarcerated within a secure facility indefinitely due to the risk he poses to the public or until deemed otherwise by health authorities.

The police found 42-year-old Christopher Beaumont's body at the address off the Shepherd’s Bush Road on Thursday, 1 March when they were called there at about 5.40pm by the mother of the two men who had returned home to find one of her sons severely injured.

Blake barricaded himself in a room at the property and officers from the Met’s Territorial Support Group (TSG) forced entry to the room, arresting Blake.

The court heard that Blake had a history of mental illness. Mr Beaumont lived in Spain with his wife and two children. He was visiting the UK for work purposes, and staying at the address where his mother and Blake lived.

Detective Sergeant Larry Deabreu, from the Homicide and Major Command, said, "This was a tragic case which has left the whole of Christopher’s family devastated. Sadly, Steven Blake's mental health was a contributing factor to the events which unfolded on 1 March in Melrose Gardens and hopefully today's sentence will provide come closure to the family."
