N-Dubz Singer Dappy Denies Assaulting Girlfriend
Rapper tweets: " I love Kaye the mother of my kids"
N-Dubz singer Dappy and his girlfriend Kaye Vassell have both denied that he assaulted her at her mother's home in Chambon Place, close to Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith.
Dappy - real name Costadinos Contostavlos - was held in police custody for 12 hours over the weekend, after being arrested on suspicion of assault, before being released without charge.
Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called to "an address in W6" at 8.59am on Saturday. Answering reports "of a woman assaulted", officers "attended and arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of common assault".
The Met spokesman added: " The 21-year-old victim did not require hospital treatment. No further action will be taken."
Despite the arrest, Vassell, who has two sons with Dappy called Gino and Milo, immediately denied any violence had taken place. "Me and Dappy are VERY HAPPY and He Would Never Lay a Finger on Me," she wrote on Twitter. "Dappys not in jail … Papers Actually Make me SICK."
Dappy echoed the sentiment, after his release. "All I Have to Say is, I Love Kaye the Mother of my Kids and My 2 Beautiful Boys," he said on Twitter."We are a Unit. Nothing Comes Between FAMILY."
Dappy, who was brought up in Camden Town, is now preparing for a solo tour of Britain in December.
The rapper has been in trouble with the police on a number of occasions in the past. In December 2008 he pleaded guilty to two accounts of assault at Chelmsford Magistrates Court after reportedly spitting in a girl's face while drunk.
He pleaded guilty to the offences and for each count received four weeks' imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, to run concurrently and 100 hours community service. He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation to the girl and her friend and £300 costs.
In January 2009, Contostavlos was arrested and bailed after he was accused of making death threats with a gun. He denied the allegation. His home in Camden was raided following the incident, by police looking for a firearm.
Three days later he was hauled off a BA flight from Edinburgh to London by police after it touched down, with fellow N-Dubz performer Fazer, after appearing to be acting disorderly. A source said: "They were swearing at kids on the plane, being foul and threatening passengers. Cabin crew called ahead to the police, who were waiting when the plane landed. They were taken away by armed officers."
On April 28 2010 Dappy appeared on GMTV after he was on that day's front pages with CCTV pictures of him taking the illegal drug Mephedrone in a night club. He apologised, insisting " It's just not a thing to be doing. I've learnt my mistake. I'll never do such things again. I was just a bit tipsy and it just fell into the wrong place at the wrong time."
A day later, Dappy was thrown out of Alton Towers for allegedly smoking cannabis. He and two other companions, thought to be Kaye Vassell and fellow hip-hop musician Fearless were asked to leave after guests complained about a "funny smell" coming from his room.
Dappy's cousin Tulisa, who was also a member of N-Dubs along with Fazer, is now a judge on TV's X-Factor.
