Slaughter says Shepherd's Bush Policing isn't Working
MP for Ealing, Acton and Shepherd's Bush Andrew
Slaughter says that according to the police, crime has gone up five per cent in Shepherd's Bush since 24-hour-policing was introduced to the area.
He argues that people living in residential areas
in Shepherd's Bush are not benefiting
from the extra police because it is focused around the
new shopping centre being built by Westfield.
He said: " I have had a lot of complaints from residential areas in Shepherds Bush Green because the policing was focused around the Westfield site.
"It is Westfield, of course who are paying for it."
Conservative councillor Paul Bristow rubbished the claim. He said that Mr Slaughter was using 'anecdotal evidence' to prove that crime had increased in the area.
He said: "I think Mr Slaughter is absolutely wrong and if he were to talk local residents about the extra police officers in the area, he would realise how popular and reassuring they were.
"The council should never apologise for putting
more police on the streets!"
Mr Slaughter responded that he did not oppose
24/7 policing -but said it should be offered to all of Shepherd's Bush
and not just for a two year period.
