Plan to host events in Hammersmith park sparks concerns from local residents
Furnivall Gardens in Hammersmith could be given a licence to sell alcohol, host live music events and plays, or show films to up to 5,000 people between 11am to 11pm.
The park in Lower Mall runs next to the riverbank in Hammersmith and is surrounded by residential homes and houseboats, in one of the most desirable areas of the borough.
The application was submitted by Hammersmith and Fulham Council on December 11, 2007.
The council plans for the area to be used for concerts of classical music or films during the summer months.
The area is also used every year by fans of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, which regularly attracts up to 5,000 people as spectators on the river banks.
It is expected the alcohol licence would be put in place so alcohol can be sold at this popular events.
Christmas fayres and antiques fairs may also use the gardens during the winter and summer months.
Residents have complained that there has been little notice to get in their objections.
The Licensing Committee will meet on January 28 to decide if it is to grant the licence.
