Ravenscourt Park charity walk set to raise £10,000

Around the park in 80 ways to help the visually impaired

More than 30 local residents took up Action Trust for the Blind's challenge to walk, jog, run, rollerblade or find another way of getting around Ravenscourt Park during its second annual 'Around the Park in 80 Ways' fundraising event in Ravenscourt Park on Sunday 8 October.

Participants included two people who completed the 5km course on space hoppers and two others dressed as a gorilla and a labrador, riding a tandem.  

The Hammersmith Grove-based charity is optimistic that funds raised at the event will reach £10,000, enabling it to continue its 'Volunteers for Visually Impaired People (VIPs)' scheme and other vital initiatives to help people in the boroughs of Hammersmith, Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea who have sight problems.

Melanie Kemps of Action Trust for the Blind said: "The sun was shining so everyone was in good spirits. With space hoppers and tandems, participants really embraced the idea of getting around the park in 80 ways and we were delighted that so many people enjoying a morning out in the park supported us too. The funds raised will make an enormous difference to the services we offer."

Councillor Antony Lillis, who opened and took part in the event, added: "I was delighted to see so many residents supporting this extremely worthwhile cause. The Action Trust for the Blind do some tremendous work in the borough and they deserve all of the support and help they can get."
