Man Dies and Three Arrested After Collision on A4


Road closure causing severe congestion centred on Hammersmith Gyratory

It has been confirmed that a man has died after a collision on the A4 in Hammersmith involving three cars.

The incident overnight has required the A4 Great West Road to be closed westbound this Friday morning, 7 June.

Police say they were called at approximately 1.40am to reports of a road traffic collision on the westbound carriageway of the A4 by Hammersmith Flyover.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene and three others, believed to be in their twenties, have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving – all have been taken to hospital as a precaution. There are no reports of any other serious injuries.

@TfLTrafficNews reported just after 2am: " [A4] Great West Road (Westbound) at the junction of Nigel Playfair Avenue - Road is closed due to a road traffic collision. Please use other routes."

Then this morning: "One incident from overnight - the A4 is closed westbound at Hammersmith Flyover due to a serious collision further west in the early hours. Tailbacks to Warwick Road with Hammersmith Gyratory also bearing the brunt, which is causing eastbound congestion from Hogarth."

The westbound carriageway of the A4 is closed for investigation work from Talgarth Road to Hogarth Roundabout, Chiswick. Tailbacks are reaching Earls Court, and also eastbound from Hogarth Roundabout.

An update from @TfLTrafficNews at 11.30am says: "Reminder - the westbound A4 is closed at Hammersmith Flyover due to a serious collision in the early hours. An extensive investigation and clean up / recovery operation continues. Severe congestion in the wider area, centred on Hammersmith Gyratory; all inputs are very heavy."
