Calls for CCTV on Shepherds Bush Rd

Area is "something of a magnet for crime and anti-social behaviour", says Hands.

In conjunction with the Masbro Area Neighbourhood Watch and local activist Belinda Donovan, Cllr Greg Hands is renewing calls for CCTV to be installed on Shepherds Bush Road.

It has been nearly two years since Cllr Hands first presented a petition containing hundreds of signatures to Hammersmith & Fulham Council calling for CCTV to be installed on the crime ridden road. Despite promising to look into the issue, the Labour Council have delivered nothing – a fact made all the more worrying given recent crime statistics that showed 8 out of 9 muggers escaping justice in the borough.

As part of the renewed campaign, Cllr Hands will be meeting local residents on the Shepherds Bush Road (outside the Brook Green Hotel) at 12 noon on Saturday 2nd October 2004 – all media welcome for photographs and interviews.

Commenting, Cllr Hands said: “Unfortunately for local residents, Shepherds Bush Road is something of a magnet for crime and anti-social behaviour. CCTV would go a long way to stopping this and I am entirely behind local residents and the Masbro Area Neighbourhood Watch in calling for it to be installed.”

Greg believes CCTV would be straightforward to install on Shepherds Bush Road, as it could be linked to existing systems on Shepherds Bush Green and at Hammersmith Broadway.

In addition, Greg has said: “It is very important that something is done to curb the excesses of anti-social drinkers on Brook Green and Little Brook Green, who make the lives of residents miserable, as well as disrupting the trade of businesses such as the Brook Green Hotel.

“If action is not taken soon then the problems will only get worse, crime will go up and our community will become permanently damaged. I don’t want to see that happen and will be doing all I can to pressurise the Council into installing CCTV.”
