Work Begins Building Long Awaited Brook Green Pavilion

Friends of Brook Green celebrate "great step forward"

 

The Friends of Brook Green are celebrating as work finally begins building the long awaited new Brook Green Community Pavilion.

Max de Rosee, Director of architects de Rosee Sa, says: " We have been working with Friends of Brook Green since 2012 on proposals for a community pavilion. We are excited that works are starting on site as the process has been complex with so many stakeholders involved.

" We have chosen chain-link fence site hoardings so the community can witness the Pavilion going up."

The proposed natural stone-clad pavilion will be located on Brook Green, sitting between the tennis court entrance and the playground and will provide a cafe with accessible toilets.

The architects say the kiosk will also open out on to the square serving an outdoor area with removable café furniture enjoying views onto the tennis courts.

The design and materials (which include Jura Beige Limestone and Southern Yellow Pine) were chosen with the intention of making a much more attractive addition to the park than its timber predecessor, giving it a civic quality that is reminiscent of the early Victorian days.

The pavilion is part of an on-going programme to regenerate the Green, following the new tennis courts and upgraded playground on the Green. 

Robert Jennings, Joint Chairman of the Friends of Brook Green - seen here on the site of the new pavilion - says: " The start of building works is a great step forward for us. We shall be celebrating this beautiful new facility at this year’s Brook Green Day fair on 17th September."
