Exciting Futures for Latymer Upper's A Level Students

'International outlook on life' means 20 are off to top American universities

A record number of pupils will study Liberal Arts at University and 20 students have secured places at top North American universities, including Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Georgetown and Brown.

Latymer Upper School Head, David Goodhew, said: "The Class of 2019 have exciting futures to look forward to in the next stage of their educational journey.

" Our pupils are encouraged to foster an international outlook on life during their time here so it’s no surprise that many will be studying abroad, the majority in the US. I’m proud of all our pupils, who work hard both in the classroom and in their many co-curricular activities, and the breadth of their interests is borne out in their choices of higher education study, from Aerospace Engineering to Music and Technology.

"I’m particularly proud of those students who joined Latymer in the Sixth Form and who have settled in to become such excellent Latymerians, achieving high scores across the board."

Behind the statistics there are many individual success stories:

Student off to US top universities including Josh Willcox, who was awarded 4A* and Alex Wright, who received 3A* and an A grade. Both will go to Harvard, while twins Cecile and Felix Ramin who are off to Yale and Chicago respectively.

Bursary pupils received excellent results, including:

• Dat Hoang, who was awarded 3A* and an A grade. Dat will go to Bath University to study Economics
• Amelia Elamradi who will go to Queen Mary’s to study Biology
• Sulayman Hussain received an A*, 2As and a B grade
• Seth Clayson-Lavelle has 2A* and an A grade
• Leo Planck-Prideaux received an A* and 3As and will study Design Engineering at Imperial
• College
• Zayn Schuman received 1A*, 2A grades and a B
• Dejan Draganic scored three A grades and will go to Manchester to study Chemical Engineering
• Samer Hamdan is heading off to Loughborough to study Mechanical Engineering
• Roya Sabbaghi, who received 4A*and Melita Gostelow, who has 3A* grades, are both off to Oxbridge to study Engineering and Natural Sciences, respectively, whilst Sophia Rzym will go to Sheffield to study Aerospace Engineering.

In the arts field, School Captain Wilkie Morrison is heading off to RADA, and Darla Matthews will be going to the Courtauld to study History of Art. Selena Ridsdill Smith will be going to Kingston University Art Foundation with a clutch of A* grades.

• Pupils who joined Latymer in the Sixth Form have done exceptionally well:
• Andrew Elkadi received 4A* and will study Maths and Computer Science at Imperial College
• Drama Scholar Issy Collingwood has 2A*s and an A and will study Liberal Arts at Leeds University
• Meido Nkontchou received 2A*s and 2A grades and will study Economics at LSE

Pupils who joined Latymer in the Prep at 7+ also celebrated great grades, including Ziggy Straszewski and Alex Wray who both received 4A* grades. Edward Esiri-Bloom, Mark Hughes and Max Weber have 3A* grades each and Hamish Lister, Michelle Kostin and Alisa Butterwick all achieved 2A* grades. Music scholar Ethan Gillespie, who came through from Latymer Prep School, will go to Liverpool University to study Music and Technology.

Head David added: " My colleagues also deserve praise for their work in supporting and inspiring our pupils throughout their time at Latymer. We wish all our school leavers well in their further studies."

Upper Sixth students at Godolphin and Latymer school have also achieved record-breaking results this year. 37% of A Levels were awarded A* and 77% were graded A* or A. Eleven students achieved three A* grades in their academic subjects, plus an A* in their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). A further eighteen students achieved two A* grades alongside an A* in their EPQ. Overall, an impressive 60% of the EPQs were awarded A* grades.

Combined with the IB results released in July, 41% of exams were graded A* or Higher Level 7. In the IB examinations, the average score of our candidates was 41 points and five candidates achieved 44 or more points (out of 45).

This year 27 students will take up places at Global Top Ten universities and we wish all the Class of 2019 continued success as they embark on a wide range of competitive courses at their choice of university.
