Labour select candidate to replace Iain Coleman

The Labour party have selected Melanie Smallman to contest the Hammersmith and Fulham constituency in the forthcoming general election. As the most marginal seat for the Government it is likely to be a keenly contested seat.

Aged 34, she has been a local councillor for the Addison ward since 1994 and lives in Benbow Road. She was selected from an all-woman short-list mandated by the party.

She said: "Every single vote is going to count. It's either going to be a vote for Labour or it's going to be a vote for the Conservatives."

A debate between the new Labour candidate, Conservative Cllr Greg Hands and Lib Dem candidate Alan Bullion, will take place at All Saint's Church in Fulham, on April 4 at 8pm. The event is open to the public

The sitting MP Iain Coleman suffered a stroke last year and decided not to contest the forthcoming election owing to ill health.
