The Difference you can Make Through Fostering

Advice from independent fostering agency Fostering Solutions

If you’ve been thinking about fostering, you have probably already considered how it might impact upon your life, job and family. These are all vital things to consider when deciding if you should become a foster parent or not. Once considered, think of the difference you can make to the life of a child or teenager in need.

Giving them a stable home:  Many children in care may never have had a place they could call home – a privilege many (if not most) of us take for granted. A home is somewhere where you feel as though you belong, where you’re safe and where you are surrounded by people who support you. Foster children may never have experienced a supportive and caring home, so offering them the most stable home environment possible can be invaluable.

Building trust: Although the fostering agency will provide you with the full background of the child’s life, there are bound to be things that the child is keeping bottled up. Becoming a person they can trust and confide in is something that will take some time, but will be greatly rewarding. Children in care may have come from an upsetting background and being there to offer support on a one-to-one basis is something they’ll be in great need of.

Support and care: Although the child may have had a lot of support in care, offering them individual support and care within a secure family home is something else. It is not uncommon for children who’ve lived in care to feel they are not wanted wherever they go. Having the opportunity to change that, and giving them a place to call home, will be rewarding for all concerned.

Support: As well as you supporting a child, there would be special support available for you too. If you go to www.fosteringsolutions.com you’ll find advice and FAQs to help you with your decision.

It is important to feel that you are ready before making the decision to foster. Consider your home and its suitability and make sure you have the full support of the people around you. There are a lot of children out there who are in desperate need of a supportive, caring and safe home – and you might just be the person they’ve been waiting for.
