Simon Orrell Atelier Now Open in Fulham

Offering luxurious home accessories, gifts and furniture

Fulham-based furniture maker Simon Orrell Designs, specialist in opulent finishes, has launched a retail division Simon Orrell Atelier, offering home accessories, gifts and a diffusion collection of furniture.

A long-established furniture designer, Simon Orrell has been creating custom-made pieces for clients in the Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea area since 2001.

Inspired by the luxurious finishes of the Art Deco age, Simon has created a niche in the interiors world, making him the go-to artisanal workshop for distinctive pieces.

Not only has he successfully recreated the glamour of this period, his studio has been able to give each and every design a fresh, contemporary spin.

Whether it’s a King’s Road retail emporium wanting desirable accessories to tempt its customers or an architectural practice that needs sumptuous finishes for its boutique hotel project, clients value the artisanal quality that Simon can bring to any decorative scheme. And although the Fulham designer is on the speed dial of several notable creative firms, he has remained – to the person in the street anyway – largely unknown as a home and interiors brand.

Now all that is changing. Fifteen years on, Simon Orrell Designs is launching Simon Orrell Atelier, a retail division of the workshop featuring a collection of pieces that uses the same finishes as the custom-made furniture but without the long lead times.

The pieces are useful, everyday objects – photo frames, mirrors, lampbases, umbrella stands, trinket and jewellery boxes – but are all lavished with his unique finishes.

Shagreen and bone, straw marquetry, paua and penshell, oyster and cracked eggshell, mother of pearl, parchment, gesso or hammer shell – each distinctive surface transforms everyday pieces such as a tray or a tissue box into exceptional objects for the home. Choose from a cufflink box in charcoal shagreen (£135), coasters in parchment (£30), an 8x10 photoframe in violet oyster and bone (£248) or a trinket box in paua shell (£315).

Furniture is available, too, with coffee and console tables, desks and dressing tables in a variety of finishes that are certain to be antiques of the future and something to pass on as family heirlooms. The Opie side table (£1,320) has an eyecatching ‘Euclid’ geometric top in black, grey and natural shagreen whilst the Sephera shagreen dressing table has a serpentine curve edge and bone stringing (£4,440).

The Furniture Collection and the Homes & Accessories Collection from Simon Orrell Atelier are illustrated in two full-colour 30-page brochures. To request a copy, email simon@simonorrelldesigns.com or call the workshop.
