Ice Cream Parlour to Open At Last on Site of Fulham's Famous Victorian Loos

2 Vanston Place to become new branch of Chiswick's very popular cafe Foubert's

2 Vanston Place in Fulham

This will become the third branch of Foubert's. The first is a hugely popular institution in Chiswick, where it has been serving ice cream for 40 years.

There is a second branch in Kensington High Street.

Now Signorello Lodico, who bought the building in 2013, has been granted a licence to open the new branch next to St John's Church at the south end of North End Road from 11am till 11pm daily except from Sunday when closing time is 10.30pm.

The original Walham Green Toilets, which had stood on the site since Victorian times, were first auctioned by H&F Council in 2008.

Despite its dilapidated state the building sold for £403,000 - four times the amount expected by the council. However, it then stood empty until being auctioned again in 2013, and this time was bought by Mr Lodico for £585,000.

In the last five years, it has been converted to create the current modern building, but has remained empty. Last year, there was an application to open a different Italian restaurant on the site, but this application was withdrawn.

Now however, and work is underway preparing the three storey building, with basement and open roof terrace, and Foubert's is expected to open within weeks. We will bring you more details when we receive them.

Foubert's will be joining two other newcomers to North End Road offering Italian menus. They are Ardiciocca at 461 - 465 North End Road, a trattoria and pizzeria specialising in healthy, gluten free dishes, and Pizzeria Lievito on the site of the former Barrow Boy pub, at 308- 310 North End Road, offering quality pizzas and craft beers.
