Scrapping of zone 2-6 travelcard will mean a 74% increase in fares
Tube passengers travelling south from Fulham will be hit with a 74% increase in fares from January 2011 after Mayor of London announced the zone 2-6 one day travelcard is to be scrapped.
The announcement came amid Boris Johnson’s confirmation that fares on London's tubes, buses, London Overground, Docklands Light Railway and trams will all rise by an average of RPI (retail price index inflation) plus 2%.
Commuters who usually buy the zone 2-6 travelcard will have to buy a £15 1-6 zone travelcard instead, £6.40 more than the current £8.60 during peak times.
Off-peak, it's a rise from £5.10 to £8.00, a hike of 57%.
Bus fares will rise by 10p to £1.30 for Oyster card users and up from £2 to £2.20 for cash fares.
All free and concessionary travel for older people, the young, the poorest and disabled Londoners has been protected in full.
The Mayor said the rises were necessary to secure investment in London's transport network and protect frontline services.
