Waitrose to Open in Parsons Green in 2011

Supermarket to take over site of Alfa Romeo showroom

One of Fulham's most distinctive landmarks, the Alfa Romeo showroom on the corner of Parsons Green Lane and Heathman's Road is set to disappear and be replaced by as new branch of Waitrose.

The supermarket chain says it has reached an agreement with the landlord and current tenants H. R. Owen to take over the lease of the ground floor, subject to planning permission being granted to change the use of the premises.

If permission is granted, it will become the third supermarket in Parsons Green Lane, alongside existing branches of Budgens and The Co-operative.

The supermarket, which will be one of the chain's new smaller convenience stores, is also within easy walking distance of the much larger Waitrose store on Fulham Broadway.

Before applying for permission later this month or early in the new year, Waitrose has set up a website laying out its proposals and inviting local people to comment.

If the proposals go ahead, Waitrose plans to open the store in autumn 2011 and says it will create 60 local jobs and will raise £500 a month for local charities through its Community Matters scheme.
