Newcomers welcome to St Mary's Church Hall on Tuesday morning
The University of the Third Age, or U3A is holding its Annual Showcase on Tuesday 13 September at St Mary’s Church Hall on the corner of Edith Road and Hammersmith Road from 10.30 am till 12.30am.
Admission is free and newcomers are welcome to visit interest group stalls and hear presentations on local activities including U3A National and Regional events.
The first age is childhood
The second age is responsibilities
BUT THE THIRD AGE IS FREEDOM!
If you are retired or semi-retired, you can take part in educational, creative and leisure activities in the company of others. No qualifications are needed and none are given.
The University of the Third Age was founded in 1982 and is a self-help organisation. Its groups come together, to develop new skills and interests, on a primarily social basis.
Hammersmith and Fulham U3A began in 2004 and has over 150 members. The U3A says: " We are a friendly crowd from all walks of life and we enjoy varied activities through a range of study and interest groups. While the majority are from Hammersmith and Fulham, we also have members from Chiswick, Kensington and Chelsea, Ealing, Wandsworth and Westminster.
" The membership fee covers free admission to our monthly meetings, access to all our groups and five e-mail copies each year of the U3A News, is £20 per year."
Membership brings the additional benefits of access to National and London Region U3A summer schools, study days and 'Shared Learning' Projects. The local U3A also take part in some joint projects with groups from other West and South West London Boroughs.
U3A hold an open meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at St Mary’s Church Hall, starting at 10.30am with news from the Chair and Group Leaders. The coffee break at 11am is normally followed by a speaker at 11.30 and the meeting finishes about 12.45pm.
Why not test the water? Visitors (£2.50) get a warm welcome. If you would like to join, the annual membership fee is £20.
